More than 100 people came to the launch of The Olive Groves of Belchite on 12 November 2009 in London. Former Conservative defence secretary Michael Portillo, now a leading media figure, participated in a panel discussion, along with Paul Preston, of the London School of Economics, Geoff Cowling, the former British consul general in Barcelona, and Jimmy Burns, the journalist and author. Wine and tapas were served at Camino, a popular Spanish bar and restaurant near King's Cross.
Elena appeared at the Hay Festival, the annual literature festival held in Hay-on-Wye (aka Glastonbury for bibliophiles), on 4 June 2010, alongside British award winning authory Blake Morrison, in a session about how the past shapes writers' work. The session was conducted by journalist and writer Anitha Sethi.
